Why Is the IRS Not Issuing a Fourth Stimulus Check in 2022?

The US federal government responded to the coronavirus outbreak by issuing stimulus cheques totaling $1,200 in April 2020, $600 in December 2020, and subsequently $1,400 in March 2021. A fourth stimulus check, on the other hand, is unlikely to be forthcoming.

Therefore, why is there going to be no fourth stimulus check? There are several reasons for this, and we describe the government’s arguments against issuing a fourth stimulus payment via the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Inflation is one of the reasons for the absence of a fourth stimulus check.

Rising inflation is a big problem in the United States of America at the moment, with the rate projected to reach 7.5 percent in January 2022. In March 2021, when the final stimulus cheque was issued, inflation was merely 2.6 percent.

Some believe that the stimulus checks sparked the inflation rise, and regardless of whether that is accurate, another stimulus check would exacerbate the situation.

Stimulus Check & Economic Stimulus (1)

With unemployment rates improving, there is no reason to anticipate a fourth stimulus check.

The stimulus checks were distributed during a period of economic stagnation caused by coronavirus limitations. There was a need for a boost, but the economy is now spontaneously recuperating.

The unemployment rate prior to the coronavirus pandemic was 3.7 percent, and it dropped all the way to 3.8 percent in February 2022, so it is essentially back to pre-pandemic levels.

This is generally positive news, as it means that an increasing number of Americans are regaining employment, which, in the opinion of legislators, decreases the need for another stimulus check.

A fourth stimulus check is not a political priority.

The third reason for the absence of a fourth stimulus check is that lawmakers are doing nothing to bring it about. Some believe there is no need, in part for the reasons described above, while others have other pressing concerns at the moment.

Even prior to the gas price issue and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, appeals for a fourth stimulus check were becoming increasingly scarce. Republicans were joined by several Democrats in opposing a fourth stimulus check, and as a result, there were few calls for one because lawmakers understood it would be impossible to approve in any case.
