HARRISON COUNTY, TEXAS – In Harrison County, a commercial vehicle transport driver is being held as deputies investigate how a vehicle stolen from Alabama two months ago ended up on his trailer.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that the driver originally attempted to elude deputies when they attempted to pull him over at 1 p.m. Thursday on I-20 near Hallsville after spotting the stolen black 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT among a number of other high-end automobiles.

Local law officers had been on the lookout for the stolen muscle vehicle on reports that it was possibly headed west on I-20. Indeed, it was. However, no one anticipated it would be on a trailer. The stolen car was discovered thanks to the eagle-eyed deputies, and the transport driver faces charges of fleeing arrest and marijuana possession.

Denovar Yapp, 40, of Florida has been named as the suspect. He may face additional charges in Birmingham, where the stolen Charger is being investigated by police.

The Challenger was taken in late January from a dealership there, shortly after it was traded in. When deputies discovered it Thursday, the stolen car’s VIN numbers and electrical control unit had been replaced.

According to the transport driver, he picked up the load from a wholesale dealership in Georgia and was travelling to Arizona. However, police report that there was no log and that the driver refused to enable investigators to access the app he said was used to log the journey.
