Maine Creates Government Website for $850 Stimulus Check – By June, more than 800,000 Maine residents could receive a $850 stimulus check.
On April 20, Democratic Governor Janet Mills signed into law a $1.2 billion supplemental budget that included provisions for direct stimulus payments to residents. The legislation, which received bipartisan support in the state legislature, was intended to assist residents of the state in managing rising food, fuel, and consumer goods prices.
New Stimulus Check Online Portal
On April 22, the governor’s office launched a new “Relief Checks” website to provide information about the upcoming stimulus checks. The new online portal answers frequently asked questions about stimulus checks in the state, explains the purpose of the checks, and assists residents in determining whether they are eligible to receive the funds.
“While the Governor cannot control the impact of COVID-19 on global markets, she can ensure that we provide Maine residents with the resources they need to deal with these higher costs,” according to the new website.
“To assist, Governor Mills proposed returning more than half of Maine’s budget surplus to taxpayers in the form of $850 direct checks.”
The website also provides resources for people who need assistance filing their taxes, information on other forms of relief, and instructions on how to ensure that residents receive the $850 check as soon as possible.
Finally, the website tells you who to contact if you have any further questions.
If you live in Maine and are unsure whether you qualify, now is the time to visit the website.
Who Is Eligible for a Stimulus Check?
The new website explains how individual filers – whether single or married – must earn less than $100,000 to be eligible for the stimulus check. The threshold has been raised to $150,000 for those filing as head of household. The threshold is then increased to $200,000 for married couples filing jointly.
Individuals expecting a stimulus check must file their Maine state income tax return by October 31st this year.
