Khalida Jia’s family requested a six-month extension of the suspended prison sentence

Dhaka: The family of Khaleda Jiya, the main opposition leader in Bangladesh, have requested a six-month suspended prison sentence for his treatment. According to the news, this time was wanted for the treatment of former Prime Minister Jia.

Let me tell you that in March the government released Jia for six months on the condition that during the Kovid-19 pandemic she would stay at home, seek treatment and not go abroad.

Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that after obtaining approval from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jiya was released on humanitarian grounds.

17 years imprisonment – Khaleda Zia, why?
The president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), 74, had been in prison since February 8, 2018, after being sentenced to 17 years in prison in two corruption cases. According to information from the Dhaka Tribune, Jia’s family asked the government to increase the suspension of the sentence. Jia’s sentence suspension period ends on September 24.

AM Ehsanur Rahman, one of Zia’s lawyers, said a letter signed by Shamim Iskandar, younger brother of the BNP president, was sent to the Home Office on August 25.

According to the report, the lawyer said: “The president of BNP has not received proper treatment due to the Kovid-19 outbreak. His family want to extend the period of suspension of the sentence so that he can be treated.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, Interior Minister Kamal confirmed receipt of the request, saying that it has been sent to the Ministry of Justice for consideration and that “further steps will be taken after reviewing the legal basis of the request.”
