New Delhi: Last year, India granted Indian citizenship to over 900 foreigners. The surprising thing is that most of the citizens are from Pakistan. This information has been revealed by official figures. The Interior Ministry said 809 Pakistani migrants were granted Indian citizenship last year.
The information provided by the Center also shows that there has been a steady increase in the number of people emigrating from Pakistan since 2015. On the contrary, the figures for 2018 and 2019 are surprising because in 2018, where 450 Pakistanis were granted citizenship, nearly twice as many as 809 people obtained citizenship after one year.

Thus, from 2015 to 2019, India granted citizenship to a total of 2,668 Pakistani expatriates.
Although Bangladeshis obtained the most citizenship since 2015, the reason was the Land Boundary Agreement in 2015. After the signing of the Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh in 2015, 14,864 Bangladeshi citizens were granted Indian citizenship under section 7 of the Citizenship Act 1955.
