If You Live Here, You Could Receive an Extra $1,000 in Monthly Stimulus Payments.

Stimulus Check

THE NEXT TWO YEARS WILL FEATURE CONTINUOUS PAYMENTS FROM OFFICIALS.

Since 2020, the federal government has distributed three separate stimulus payments to citizens across the nation in an effort to alleviate the financial burdens caused by the COVID pandemic. However, it has been a while: The last time the majority of us received this type of federal aid was in March 2021, when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) began sending out the third $1,400-maximum stimulus check. And while a number of individuals have advocated for a fourth payment, it is highly unlikely that this will occur. As it turns out, however, one major U.S. city has announced plans to send certain residents monthly supplemental checks. Find out if you could receive additional aid in 2022 by reading on.

Several states have provided residents with additional assistance.

Despite the fact that there is little to no chance of another national stimulus payment, some states have worked to provide additional funds at the local level. In fact, according to Newsweek, residents of California, Delaware, and Indiana will receive stimulus checks this month. Beginning in May, California residents who meet certain criteria will receive a check for either $600 or $1,200. Meanwhile, Delaware and Indiana will issue smaller tax rebates of $125 and $300 per eligible recipient, respectively.

Forbes recently reported that Maine will begin sending out $850 stimulus checks in June of this year. According to the magazine, on April 20, Governor Janet Mills signed a supplemental budget authorizing a one-time direct payment to state taxpayers with incomes of less than $100,000 per individual or $200,000 per couple.

And now, one major city is providing some with monthly stimulus checks.

For some, the expectation of future assistance may not be a one-time deal. Insider reported on May 7 that Baltimore is preparing to give monthly checks to some of its residents with no strings attached. According to the news source, 200 young parents will receive direct payments beginning this summer in the city of Maryland. According to Adam Roseman, the CEO of Steady, the platform that Baltimore will use to deliver the funds, these residents will receive $1,000 per month for two years, and they will have multiple options for how they can receive their funds. There are several options available, including a bank account, PayPal, and even Venmo.

Roseman told Insider that the administrative burden for the recipient consists of doing nothing. “Once it’s set, it’s set, and then the money arrives every month with no further action required.”

This choice was made in response to the pandemic.

Brandon Scott, mayor of Baltimore, told Insider that the decision to provide a guaranteed income to young parents was partially influenced by the financial impact of the COVID pandemic. “We are aware that Baltimore residents have been struggling for far too long, but the situation has worsened since COVID-19,” he explained. “Our low-income residents, especially our young parents, have endured the worst of the pandemic and economic fallout, and they need this more than ever before.”

The mayor stated that the program is also intended to help low-income parents spend more time with their children.

“We want to help individuals pay their rent and avoid eviction,” Scott added. “We want them to have access to transportation so that they can obtain employment, transport their children to and from school, and spend more time with their children since they won’t have to spend three or four hours on the bus. We want to be able to assist them with childcare costs.”

Residents who qualify have only one day left to apply for the program.

According to Insider, the Baltimore guaranteed-income program will accept applications until May 9 in order to select the 200 residents who will receive monthly payments. To apply, however, parents must be between the ages of 18 and 24 and reside in Baltimore City.

According to Insider, their income must be 300 percent or less of the federal poverty level, which for a family of three is approximately $69,090.

According to the news source, the program’s recipients will be observed by researchers who will track outcomes such as mental health, employment, and food security. Scott explained, “When you are a city with the significant health disparities that we have in Baltimore, and you know that much of that is caused by the stress of not being able to provide for your family or afford healthier options and food, we would be doing this the wrong way if we weren’t considering health and mental health.”
