You’re probably aware of the various federal stimulus payments, but did you know that there is also a Golden State stimulus available to qualifying residents of California? This is a one-time payment from the state of California of $600 or $1,200.
Simple steps to take if you’re unsure whether you received stimulus funds
In fact, there were two Golden State Stimulus payments. To receive the first payment, you must claim the California Earned Income Tax Credit on your 2020 California tax return in order to receive $600; or you must file your 2020 tax return using an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) and up to $75,000 in order to receive $1,200.
The state has provided a calculator that you can use by entering information such as your filing status, income amount, the number of qualifying children you have, and your social security number.
Simply fill in that information and you’ll be able to determine how much money you should receive from the state of California as part of the Golden State Stimulus. It is possible that you will be disqualified if your income exceeds the qualifying amount.
