Authorities Say an Inmate Was Slain in an Attack at a California Prison.
FOLSOM, Calif. – FOLSOM, Calif. Authorities stated Sunday that an inmate died after being attacked in the recreation yard of a Northern California prison.
After Saturday’s attack at California State Prison in Sacramento, staff deployed chemical agents to put an end to the incident, the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a statement.
Nathan Marcus was pronounced dead just after 2:30 p.m. despite life-saving procedures, the statement added.
Tyler Yates and Gregory Roach, two fellow convicts, are accused of murder in the death, which is being investigated as a homicide, officials said. Yates and Roach were placed in a segregation unit pending the outcome of the investigation.

Marcus, 33, was serving two consecutive jail sentences for fleeing a police officer and prisoner possession of a lethal weapon.
Sacramento’s prison is a maximum-security facility that houses more than 1,750 convicts.
