A Texas Man Is Accused of Murdering His Wife and Hurting Himself.


EDINBURG, TEXAS (TCD) — A 51-year-old man was detained last week on suspicion of calling 911 and telling authorities he murdered his wife.

According to a news statement from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, a man later identified as Ismael Medrano called 911 on March 17 at approximately 10:10 a.m. and stated “he killed his wife.” Medrano reportedly provided authorities with his address information, and deputies responded to his report on the 2900 block of Davis Road.

Maria Elena Garza’s body was discovered at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, Medrano reportedly endured life-threatening self-inflicted wounds. Garza’s cause of death and Medrano’s injuries were not specified by the Sheriff’s Office.

Medrano was arrested and charged with murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office. According to reports, his bond was set at $1 million. Medrano is being treated for self-inflicted injuries but is expected to recover, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The investigation continues.
