Many Americans have yet to receive their $1,400 stimulus check payments, despite the fact that they were eligible and did not receive them due to some snag. Thousands of eligible Americans, according to the Treasury Department’s Inspector General, did not receive the third stimulus check.
Thousands of Americans did not receive their stimulus checks.
The IRS announced on March 30th that they will no longer distribute any of the checks. They will, however, resolve the issue of an eligible taxpayer who received an incorrect check or missed their stimulus check. In that case, they can apply for the additional funds in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit, which will be calculated using tax returns from 2020 and 2021.
Despite the fact that the vast majority of people have received their checks, according to Treasury reports, an estimated 644,705 people have yet to receive their checks, amounting to $1.6 billion. Because the IRS relies on previous information, a family that recently had a newborn may not have received the dependent payment. The department only has information until 2020, after which it will send the stimulus check.
Furthermore, in some cases, individuals began earning less after 2020, and as a result, they became eligible for a check that the IRS may not be aware of. 420,000 people have missed their third stimulus payment and have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
Employees typically use their ITIN number rather than their Social Security number. Furthermore, families with dependents can use their Social Security number to claim their payment under the American Rescue Plan. Finally, approximately 130,000 people did not receive stimulus payments due to an error in their unemployment payment.
