COLLIN COUNTY — Texas authorities detained a 27-year-old man Saturday after they said he drove more than 900 miles to meet what he believed to be a 15-year-old girl and return her to Minnesota.
Richard Jenkins, II, of Bricelyn, Minn., was arrested Thursday by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) on a charge of online solicitation of a minor–sexual behaviour.
Jenkins made it plain in an online chat with an undercover CEU investigator acting as a 15-year-old girl in McKinney that he desired to meet and participate in sexual activity, according to CEU.
He stated in the chat that he intended to return her to Minnesota and instructed the girl to inform her parents that she would be spending a week at a camp in his home state.
Jenkins was detained Saturday in a local park and processed at the Collin County Detention Facility.
“Please keep a close eye on your children’s online activity.” “Jim Skinner, Collin County Sheriff, stated. “This man travelled 12 hours straight in order to pick up a 15-year-old girl with the intention of transporting her out of state and sexually assaulting her. If you have reason to believe that someone is talking inappropriately with your child online, please contact your local law enforcement department. Collin County will continue to pursue those who would prey on our children.”
Jenkins’ bond was set at $250,000. He was released from custody on Thursday.
