A Man in Odessa (Tx) Is Accused of Setting Fire to His Home


An Odessa (TX) man was detained Tuesday afternoon after officials observed him on video burglarizing a property and setting fire to it.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 2700 block of Windsor Avenue around 9 p.m. Saturday, March 19, according to an Odessa Police Department report. Investigators revealed that the fire began in a laundry basket in a bedroom and travelled up a wall and to a damaged window prior to the fire. According to the investigation, heat and smoke damage occurred in other portions of the empty residence as well.

According to the report, the woman staying in the residence said she moved into the house approximately six weeks ago after leaving her husband, and she’d installed cameras the day before because she’d been having troubles with her estranged spouse.

According to the article, while studying the security footage with investigators, the woman identified her estranged husband, Eric Jay Rodriguez, as the man roaming around with a flashlight inside the property. Rodriguez was also seen leaving the house, reaching through the damaged window, and setting fire to the clothing in the basket.
