The Stockton Authorities Department said on Sunday that a 15-year-old child wanted for a felony in Contra Costa County fatally shot a 37-year-old man while attempting to avoid police in the City of Stockton.

According to the SPD, an update on the Traffic Fatality Investigation has been made.

Around 10:20 a.m., the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office attempted to apprehend a suspect vehicle that was sought in Contra Costa County for a felony. When a Stockton Police officer observed this, he rushed to assist.

The suspect vehicle collided with an uninvolved motorist at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Lincoln St, and the uninvolved motorist was sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The suspect was apprehended and placed under arrest. Medical professionals were rushed to the scene and discovered that the 37-year-old driver of the uninvolved vehicle had perished.

The suspect, later identified as a 15-year-old juvenile, was taken to the hospital and then booked into the San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on vehicular murder and reckless endangerment charges.

A multi-agency investigation into the critical incident is currently underway, with participants including the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, the Stockton Police Department, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner, and the California Highway Patrol.
