After going missing and spending the night alone in the cold before being rescued, the family of a 5-year-old kid has dubbed him “the toughest little cowboy in Texas.”

Cameron Crumrine, lovingly known as “Curly,” had strayed away from the family property in Bandera with his dogs about dinner time. The area is secluded and densely forested, with thousands of acres of dense vegetation and dangerous animals.

When his family learned that the dogs had returned home without him, they feared the worst.

“That night, the temperature dropped to roughly 35 degrees. As the night progressed and the temperature dropped, I began to fear the worst,” Curly’s mother explained.

“You can’t picture your life continuing without experiencing genuine joy again,” Curly’s grandmother explained.

For 17 hours, 200 volunteers and law enforcement officers scoured the area for the missing child.

The following day, at 11:30 a.m., a rancher noticed Curly wandering miles from his house and requested a search chopper.

The child walked to an ambulance that was waiting for him. As he was transported to a helicopter, volunteers cheered.

His family was ecstatic that he had been discovered alive and well.
