11 States May Receive Stimulus Funds in the Coming Weeks.

There are no new federal COVID-19 relief funds on the horizon, but eleven states may distribute “stimulus checks” this spring. California, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Main, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and Virginia are those states. Here is a summary of how each of these states will distribute aid in the coming weeks.

As a means of combating the current increase in gasoline prices, California may first distribute its budget surplus directly to car owners. According to a report by Fatherly, Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed sending all car owners prepaid debit cards with $400 for gas. If approved, these items could arrive as early as July.

Next, Georgia is sending aid to its citizens using its budget surplus. Reportedly, the state will send refunds to those who filed tax returns in 2020 and 2021. Single filers will receive $250, household heads will receive $375, and married couples will receive $500. However, these payments may be delayed and, in some instances, deducted from outstanding debts.

The state government of Hawaii is sending stimulus checks to all residents with annual incomes of less than $100,000. The average payment will likely be around $300, and dependents will not be excluded. This means that large families could receive substantial assistance.

The governor of Idaho, Brad Little, has approved a bill that will give citizens a 12 percent rebate on their state taxes for 2020, up to a maximum of $75. Others will receive these payments in the near future if they received their tax refund via direct deposit.

A comparable program in Illinois is launching a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s tax system. First, it is reported that residents will receive a $100 rebate on their state taxes, and legislators are pushing hard for more. This could include a complete moratorium on grocery taxes, a 10-day freeze on school supply taxes, and a $300 property tax credit.

Beginning in May, residents of Indiana who filed their 2020 tax returns will receive a $125 refund. In Maine, residents with incomes below $100,000 will receive a one-time payment of $850 under a similar straightforward program. However, in Maine, this applies to their tax returns for 2021.

Reportedly, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is pushing for a repeat of last year’s stimulus payment with new additions. This time, he wants the $500 payment to go to non-citizens, their spouses, dependents, and those who filed their taxes with a tax ID number instead of a social security number.

Depending on your annual gross income in New Mexico, you may be eligible for multiple tax refunds this year. In July, payments based on AGI will be distributed, and a second, larger payment may be issued in August.

The New York program is the least liquid, but it is still respectable. The state’s new budget relief plan could eliminate the gasoline tax for the remainder of 2022 and provide up to $970 in property tax relief. Nonetheless, this is one of the programs that requires legal approval.

Finally, legislators in Virginia are considering suspending the gas tax and eliminating the grocery tax. Again, these must pass through state legislatures to make a difference, but residents are keeping a close eye on how their representatives handle these matters.
